We’ve got quad piston brakes!

You don’t have to spend $500 on Magura brakes just to get quad piston brakes anymore! I spent 5 sleepless weeks working with a great manufacturer to get these brakes custom made for us. They also make the brakes for the Fidico Lightspeed Knight Scooter. DYIsland! The company has done a great job, mixing parts of 3 different preexisting kits together in a mix to create the ones we needed. Before now, you’d either have an extra bracket on your caliper, you’d lose the 2 pin connector for your brake lights. Or even worse, they make you get messy with the project of cutting and bleeding your own brake lines. After getting the manufacturer to mix a few of their kits together, now we’ve got it all. Of course, right as we get these in stock there are now other kits available on Aliexpress for around $135+tax. However, they only come with the levers, lines, and calipers. Even still, in many of those other kits you’ll end up with brake lines that are too short for bigger scooters like the Inmotion RS, or Kaabo Wolf series’ of scooters. NOTE! The kits we have will fit any scooter with hydraulic brakes that use a 2 pin connector for the taillights. The kits will only fit scooters on with both rotors on the right hand side of the motors, OR one rotor on the front left, and one on the back right. If both of your rotors are on the left side of the motors, then these kits are not compatible!

Quad piston brakes are the only way…

You’ll have increased stopping power, extra cooling, and easier lever modulation. I don’t know about you, but I can smoke a pair of stock Zoom pads in a few days. Especially if I’m running them hard with high speed stops. On the quad piston brakes you’ll have 4 pistons pushing on the pads instead of two. This means the brake pads wear more evenly, and increase the lifespan of your pads. Furthermore, now instead of the composite Zoom pads, you’ll be able to choose between ceramic, semi-metallic, and full metallic pads (see added picture for more details). Brake pads with heat sinks.

Included with your kit are your choice of upgraded cooling fin brake pads. The upgraded pads have built in fins toward the top that act as heat sinks to keep the pads cooler while you ride. The more dense of brake material you choose, the longer the brake life will be. However, It’s also important to keep in mind that the more dense brake materials take longer to heat up and are less effective at stopping unless they are warmed up. More dense brake materials are also more prone to squeaking if they get layered with dirt, oil, or debris. I only recommend ceramic brake pads if you’re a heavier guy (200+ lbs) and your average speeds are around 35+mph or faster.

Why Titanium Screws?

Titanium screws are an amazing upgrade. They cost significantly more than the standard aluminum screws and are over twice as strong. On mountain bikes, this is a very rare upgrade because the speed and weight of a bike isn’t anywhere near what it is on an electric scooter. With the added grip of 4 pistons against the pads, if you squeeze quickly enough on a heavy electric scooter at full speed, aluminum screws can sheer right off of the rotor. That will leave you completely without brakes. I’ve only seen it happen a couple times, but that’s twice too many.

Also consider the M5x15 Titanium screws we sell for mounting the caliper to the scooter. This isn’t as necessary, but is good for peace of mind.  This way, the weakest point of your braking system will be the frame of your scooter, which isn’t weak at all. When using these screws into the rotors and mounts, you always want to be sure to put a dab of removable thread locker on each screw. If you don’t have any, we sell some for cheap RIGHT HERE. 

Isn’t replacing brakes hard?

It sounds more complicated than it is, you’re essentially just removing old outdated stuff and putting new brakes right where the old ones were. Instructions will also be included with your order in video format.

First step is to replace the brake levers on your handlebars with the two included levers. Then snake the new brake line from your new levers down through your scooter to the back and front using the existing routing. Then you’ll take off your old calipers. Next take off both tires, and replace the rotors with the included rotors and titanium screws. After that you will put the brake pads into your new calipers, and install the calipers on the frame where your old ones were. Last step is to connect the brake lines into the new calipers with the included hardware (instructional video will be included for you to watch when you purchase the kit).

Expect about an hour, maybe two, of wrenching on  your scooter to get it done carefully and correctly your first time.

Less maintenance.

The $30 zoom brakes that come on many bigger scooter have oil issues. They’ve got a habit of leaking, or loosing oil, getting air in the lines, and developing squishy levers. These DYISLAND brakes are much higher quality, so there will be less maintenance involved keeping them in tip top shape. That being said, on the new brakes you will eventually need to drain and fill the lines again, as with any hydraulic brake. This is why we’ve included the option to get a bleed kit and bottle of oil on your brake order for just $10 extra ($21 value if bought here separately). The 3 levels of brake pads you can choose with this order also have a much longer lifespan.
