Nutt Quad Piston Brake Pads
Nutt Quad Piston Brake Pads with heatsinks! Why do you need them?
These cooling fin brake pads protrude from the top of the caliper by a couple cm and have slotted fins toward the top. A far superior design to OEM brake pads. Stock pads LIKE THESE, stay contained inside the rotor. Having the pads contained in the rotor does a fantastic job of warming the pads up quickly. However, it also means they stay hot for longer. Often times heating up between stops to the point where they can lose effectiveness completely.
I can recall one specific instance on a Weped FS with stock brake pads where I had stopped so hard, and from such a fast speed, that the brakes completely stopped functioning. The lever still worked, but the pads were too hot to grip the rotor anymore. There is nothing more terrifying than not having brakes. With the electric or regenerative brakes deactivated you will notice particularly quickly. . .
How Do the Heatsinks Work?
The upgraded pads on this page have built in fins toward the top of each pad. As air blows over the fins while in motion, the fins act as heat sinks to keep the brake pads cooler while you ride. Keeping the pads cooler than stock pads can both help them last longer, and reduce the potential for the type of brake failure described above (overheating). The more dense of brake material you choose, the longer the brake life will be. With semi-metallic brakes being the softest (standard), full metallic brakes in the middle, and ceramic brakes.
How To Choose The Brake Pads For You.
In general, casual riders that don’t regularly exceed 35+mph, or intentionally stop quickly, will be fine with the regular semi-metallic type fins. If you’re a particularly aggressive rider, or you like to ride on groups near others, I recommend full metallic. If you keep your scooter clean and ride it like every road is a racetrack, then ceramic sounds like the right choice for you. It’s very hard to say which pads will work for you exactly.
Note: These are for fitment on the Nutt quad Piston brakes only. If you have Nutt brakes with dual pistons, you should check out the Toopre hybrid ceramic sets that we have!
